Gladson Awako powers Hearts to first win of the season

Accra, Nov. 15, GNA – Substitute Gladson Awako registered his first goal for Accra Hearts of Oak as they defeated Elmina Sharks 1-0 in a match-day eight encounter played at the Ndoum Sports Stadium in Elmina, on Wednesday.

The highly-rated midfielder who was introduced in the 64th minute of the game made his presence felt instantly as he struck home a beauty in the 71st minute to secure Hearts their first win of the season.

The win for the Phobians does lift them off the bottom of the league into 15th position having played three games less.

Both sides finished the game with 10 players on the field after Elmina Sharks Captain Suraj Ibrahim was sent off by Referee Richmond Antwi after a second bookable offense likewise Ibrahim Salifu who received his marching orders later in the game.

The first half was very cagey as both sides looked to take the lead with numerous penalty appeals being waived by the Referee Antwi with no clear-cut scoring chances created as it ended scoreless.

Hearts started the second half on the front foot making some attacking incursions and created some chances but couldn’t capitalize.

Kofi Kordzi and Gladson Awako were introduced just past the half-hour mark and did make an impact on the game with Awako scoring the only goal of the game to secure all three points.

Hearts would now turn attention to their week nine fixture where they come up against Accra Lions.
