Black Stars need operational restructure – MP

Tema,– Mr. Carlos Ahenkorah, Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency has called for a critical analysis of the Black Stars following their exit from the Africa Nations Cup (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon.

Ghana lost 3-2 to AFCON debutant Comoros on Tuesday which marked the first time Ghana exited an AFCON tournament without winning a game.

Mr. Ahenkorah in an interview with the GNA Sport in Tema called for changes in the structure of the team to enable the nation to recover from what has been described as a serious football setback.

“We all know the relevance of football to the nation and the Black Stars have really disappointed many Ghanaians. We have to be factual and face the reality. We have to go back and reflect on the structural crisis of Ghanaian football,” he added.

Mr. Ahenkorah recommended that the local league must be strengthened to create opportunities for local players in the national teams.

He also noted the urgent need for the National Sports Authority (NSA) to prioritize the development of younger players and improve on their relations with the state clubs, coaches, and youth programme.
