Be security conscious during Christmas—COP Tetteh Yohunu

Accra, — Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu, Director-General (DG), Administration, Ghana Police Service, has advised the citizenry to be security conscious during the Christmas festivities.

He said they should place premium on protecting their lives and property and desist from doing things that would put their family and friends in danger.

“During Christmas, people go out to attend church services, all-night prayers, but they don’t leave people at home to protect the house. Even though you have the Police around, you must also do your best to protect your property and ensure your own safety,” he advised.

COP Yohunu gave the advice at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Christmas Carols organised by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in Accra.

He encouraged the citizens not to hesitate in calling the Police emergency numbers (191 or 18555) anytime they sensed their lives were under threat.

COP Yohunu lauded Government for the continued support to the Service and thanked the personnel for their sacrifices towards ensuring peace and security in the country.

He said unfortunately many Police personnel had lost their lives this year, many others injured.

The DG wished all injured personnel speedy recovery and extended condolences to the family of all deceased officers.

He said inasmuch as their profession placed them in constant danger, they would not relent on carrying out their mandate of protecting citizens.

COP Yohunu advised the personnel to regularly visit health facilities for medical check-ups and adhere to the health precautions given by medical professionals.

He called on Regional, Divisional, District and Station officers to encourage the personnel, especially those on operational duties to take some rest when off duty.
