2022 FIFA WC qualifiers: Partey’s spectacular free-kick goal powers Ghana to defeat Zimbabwe

Thomas Partey scored from a direct free-kick on Tuesday afternoon to power Ghana to record a vital 1-0 win over Zimbabwe in the qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Last month, the Black Stars suffered a setback in the campaign of the African qualifiers when the team lost by a goal to nil to the Bafana Bafana in South Africa.

As a result of that result, Ghana ended the September international break behind South Africa on the standings of Group G.

This month however, Ghana has made amends by completing the double over Zimbabwe to amass the maximum six points.

Last Friday, the Black Stars defeated the Brave Warriors 3-1 in Cape Coast before subsequently travelling to Harare to pick a 1-0 win against the same opponent today.

Courtesy of the victory, Ghana has temporarily climbed to the summit of Group G ahead of South Africa.

The Bafana Bafana however have a game in hand and could return to the top of the Group G standings if they are able to beat Ethiopia later today.
