Zeepay Pursues GH¢15 Million Legal Action Against MTN Ghana Over Corporate Wallet Registration

Accra:Zeepay Ghana Limited and its Managing Director, Andrew Takyi-Appiah, are suing MTN Ghana and Mobile Money Fintech Limited for GH¢15 million. The lawsuit pertains to an alleged failure to amend the registration of a corporate mobile money wallet, which was wrongly registered under Takyi-Appiah’s name instead of the company’s.

According to Ghana Web, the lawsuit was filed at the High Court in Accra on October 23, 2026. The plaintiffs argue that despite submitting the necessary documents dating back to November 2023, the defendants did not correct the registration. The corporate mobile money wallet, known as an OVA wallet, was subscribed to by Zeepay around 2022 or 2023. Despite reminders up to August 2026, the registration anomaly persisted.

Zeepay claims that the continued association of Takyi-Appiah’s name with the wallet has caused him reputational harm and entanglement in legal proceedings. They are seeking GH¢10 million in general damages, GH¢5 million in exemplary damages, and unspecified general damages for breach of contract. The plaintiffs are also asking the court to declare the registration unlawful, order the removal of Takyi-Appiah’s name from the records, and cover legal costs.

The lawsuit follows a separate court ruling where Zeepay and Takyi-Appiah were ordered to pay businessman Michael Yusuf over failed fund transfers. Additionally, the Bank of Ghana revoked Zeepay’s Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer licence due to regulatory breaches. These issues are distinct from the current lawsuit against MTN Ghana and MMFL, which remains unresolved in court.

The GH¢15 million claim is currently a demand for compensation and not yet a court-awarded sum.
