Accra: Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has announced that his World Cup giant screen initiative has successfully created over 110 jobs, primarily benefiting women and young people both within and beyond the constituency. According to Ghana Web, the initiative was designed not only to provide residents with an opportunity to enjoy World Cup matches but also to stimulate economic activity and support local enterprises. In a detailed Facebook post, Dumelo highlighted the roles created by the program, stating that ten young individuals have been employed to set up the giant screens across the constituency. Dumelo also shared that an additional group of young people has been engaged to distribute refreshments at various viewing centres. Thirty youth have been employed for this purpose, enhancing the experience for attendees while generating employment. The initiative further supports local food vendors, with thirteen kenkey houses contracted to prepare meals, benefiting thirteen famili es during the World Cup season. Moreover, Dumelo's initiative extends its support to farmers in other regions by purchasing agricultural produce that might otherwise remain unsold. The maize used is sourced from the Upper East and Volta regions, providing an economic boost to farmers facing a glut. Other ingredients, such as fish and vegetables, are also procured from various regions, with local service providers engaged to support the initiative. Chair rental companies in Ayawaso have been contracted to supply chairs and tables, while transport operators are also benefiting from the project. Several taxi drivers are on standby to assist with the transportation of refreshments and the movement of those employed. Dumelo emphasized that the initiative has generated substantial employment opportunities for residents and businesses, directly and indirectly employing over 110 people, with a focus on women and youth.
