World Athletics: Huge blow as Ghana’s Azamati and Paul Amoah fail to book semi final slot?

Accra, Ghana’s current record holders, Benjamin Azamati and Joseph Paul Amoah have failed to sail through to the semi finals of the 100 metres race at the ongoing World Athletics Championship (WAC) after finishing fourth and fifth positions.

Azamati finished fourth in the 100 metres Heat six race with a time of 10.18 seconds whiles Paul Amoah also managed to finish in fifth position in the Heat seven race with a time of 10.22 seconds.

The Championship, which is currently taking place in Oregon, USA saw the athletes battle for a qualification slot with the likes of Christian Coleman, Andre De Grasse, Abdul Sani Brown, Edward Osei-Nketiah of?New Zealand and some other top giants.?

Azamati was on the verge of qualifying to the semi finals but was beaten by Brazil’s Erik Cardoso with a millisecond time to book a qualification to the semi finals.?

Azamati in an interview after his race showed disappointment after putting up his best to win a medal for Ghana.?

“I might just have to learn from whatever that happened today, I still have Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to go so I am going to look back to whatever that I did today and correct my mistakes, so moving forward I think I am going to do well,” he said.

Speaking on his team’s preparation towards the Men’s 4 x 100 metres relay, he said Team Ghana have prepared adequately to advance to the finals of the competition as they seek to grab a medal for Ghana.

He thanked Ghanaians for the love shown so far and promised to put a smile on the faces of Ghanaians in his next race.

Team Ghana would be preparing for the Men’s 4 x 100 metres relay in the coming events with the likes of Sean Sadi-Antwi, Debrah Acquah, Benjamin Azamati, Emmanuel Yeboah and Joseph Manu all ready to partake in the World Championship.?
