Takoradi: The Western Regional House of Chiefs has bestowed an honor upon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister and Member of Parliament, recognizing him as a peace-maker and development-oriented leader from the Western Region. The accolade was presented to him during a ceremony held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the honor was a testament to Armah-Kofi Buah's pivotal role in resolving a prolonged chieftaincy dispute concerning the election of the Western Regional House of Chiefs President. This dispute had persisted for over five years, creating a significant obstacle to regional unity and progress. Nana Kobbina Nketsia V, the Paramount Chief of the Essikado Traditional Council, praised Armah-Kofi Buah for his substantial contributions to the region's development and for setting aside his political position to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders.
Some chiefs who spoke at the ceremony highlighted that Armah-Kofi Buah's approach was not limited to formal communications. Instead, he engaged personally with the conflicting parties, leveraging both his official capacity and his standing as a respected member of the region. They acknowledged his dedication to fostering peace and unity within the Western Region.
In his acceptance speech, Armah-Kofi Buah expressed profound gratitude to the chiefs for the recognition and trust they placed in him. He committed to intensifying his efforts towards the region's development and urged the chiefs to maintain peace and harmony to expedite progress. Emphasizing the importance of unity, he remarked, "Without unity, the Western Region cannot develop, so I appeal to you to remain united at all times."
The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, also lauded the chiefs for their decision to reconcile and work collectively for the region's advancement. He expressed his admiration for the chiefs' commitment to unity after years of discord and encouraged continued cooperation for the benefit of their communities.
Nana Maxwell Boakye, a member of the Council of State, joined in commending the chiefs for honoring Armah-Kofi Buah. He underscored the inspiring nature of Armah-Kofi Buah's service and pledged ongoing collaboration to further the development of the Western Region.
The ceremony was attended by Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from the Western Region, marking a significant step towards regional cohesion and development.
