The Minister for Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), has made a clear distinction between the current erratic power supply crisis the country is facing and the one experienced during the era of former President John Dramani Mahama.
According to reports from myjoyonline.com, the energy minister stated that the ongoing power crisis in the country is completely different from the one seen under Mahama, which became known as ‘dumsor.’
He explained that during Mahama’s time, Ghanaians endured long periods of power outages with only short intervals of electricity, lasting an unprecedented four years. However, the current situation involves temporary power outages to address faults, which he referred to as ‘dum siesie.’
‘When I took office in the ministry, we had already moved past the era of 72 to 96 hours without power and only six hours of electricity. We are now in the ‘dum siesie’ era, which is significantly different from ‘dumsor’,’ he emphasized.
”Dumsor’ was only experienced during the governance
of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. He is the only president in history who, throughout his four-year term, subjected the country to constant power outages,’ he added.
The minister highlighted that impartial Ghanaians would agree that Mahama’s power crisis was far worse than what the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government is currently facing.
‘If someone without bias claims that the current situation is worse, then I question their perception of reality,’ he concluded.
