Accra: Social media user Webkid has been denied bail for the second time and now faces six criminal counts after prosecutors withdrew his original charge sheet and filed a fresh one.
According to Ghana Web, his lawyer, Moses Kojo Akorful, disclosed this information during an interview on Asempa FM on May 25, 2026. He described the situation as a systematic denial of due process for his client, who has now been in custody for nearly a month. Webkid, whose real name is Abdul Gafaru Sani, was initially arrested following a defamation and publication of false news complaint filed by dancehall musician Stonebwoy.
Webkid was first denied bail at his initial court appearance and was remanded into custody for two weeks. Akorful explained that on May 10, they appeared in court, where he informed the judge of his client's arrest on May 7. Despite the breach of the 48-hour rule, Webkid was not granted bail and instead was remanded for two weeks.
The lawyer had prepared and filed a bail application, ensuring the Attorney General was properly served, and expected the court to address it. However, he was blindsided when he learned that the Republic had withdrawn the earlier charge, rendering the bail application moot before they even reached court.
A new charge sheet was filed, adding two additional counts to the existing charges, bringing the total against Webkid to six. Akorful was left unable to argue in court as the charge sheet he had prepared the defense for was no longer valid.
Webkid has now been remanded for another two weeks. Akorful argues that these actions represent an abuse of the legal system and could potentially be used against anyone. He highlighted the fact that Webkid has been in custody for almost a month, facing more accusations before having the chance to defend himself.
