Watch Former NSMQ Star Address ‘AI Takeover’ Fears After Graduating From MIT

Accra: Prince Debrah Jr, a former National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) finalist from Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School (PRESEC), has opened up about his uncertainty over the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In a brief interview after his graduation, the young Ghanaian software engineer admitted that while AI presents enormous opportunities, its future impact on jobs and humanity remains difficult to predict.

According to Ghana Web, when asked whether he was afraid of the rise of AI, Prince Debrah Jr responded with caution, saying he had 'mixed feelings' about the technology. 'I have mixed feelings about the growth of AI. I don't exactly know where AI is going to head to,' he said. The PRESEC alumnus explained that although technology continues to evolve rapidly, he still believes there are areas where human beings will remain relevant.

'There's still going to be some amounts of stuff that humans can do. And I don't know exactly what AI is going to do in the future and what's going to be left for humans. So I have very mixed feelings about it,' he added. Prince Debrah Jr's comments have resonated with many young people navigating careers in technology at a time when conversations around AI replacing human jobs continue to dominate global discussions.

Despite his concerns about the future of AI, the Ghanaian graduate has already secured a role with tech giant Google as a software engineer. 'Today I'm graduating from MIT with a degree in computer science,' he proudly stated during the interview. When asked about the kind of job he could get with his degree, he revealed: 'I'll be doing software engineering at Google.'

Prince Debrah Jr was part of the PRESEC team that reached the finals of the 2021 NSMQ competition, earning admiration from many Ghanaians for his brilliance and calm composure during the contest. His latest achievement at MIT has once again sparked praise online, with many describing his journey from the NSMQ stage in Ghana to one of the world's top universities as an inspiration to young students across the country.
