Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of the Upper West Region that the Wa-Bolgatanga trunk road will be asphalted after the completion of the double surface dressing, to ensure its durability and longevity.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama gave this assurance at Hain in the Jirapa Municipality while inspecting the progress of work on the Wa-Hain Big Push Road Project as part of his two-day 'ResettingGhana' tour of the Upper West Region. He indicated that some people were previously skeptical about the possibility of tarring the Wa-Tumu-Bolgatanga Road but added that he would soon commission the road to link the Upper West and Upper East Regions.
President Mahama expressed optimism that the road would be completed by 2027, providing a comfortable ride between the two regions. He outlined the Big Push programme's first phase focus on trunk roads linking regional capitals and mentioned that subsequent phases would address other major and feeder roads across the country.
He commended P and W Ghanem, the contractor responsible for the Wa-Hain Road project, for their quality work and years of experience in road construction. Additionally, President Mahama inspected the progress of the 24-Hour Economy Market project at Nadowli, praising the contractor for the project's pace and expressing concerns over the slow progress of other projects, urging their respective contractors to follow the example set by the Nadowli market contractor.
The completion of the markets is expected to enhance economic conditions for local farmers by providing them an outlet to sell their produce. Madam Mary Haruna, the Nadowli-Kaleo District Chief Executive, highlighted the eagerness of women in the area for the market's completion, noting their significant role as beneficiaries.
Furthermore, President Mahama inspected ongoing work on a Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) project at the Hain Senior High School.
