Volta NPP Warns Akatsi South MCE Against Party Interference

Akatsi south: The Volta Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has instructed its executives in Akatsi South to refrain from attending a meeting organized by the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC). The meeting, which was scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, was called by Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive, in response to recent security incidents reportedly linked to the NPP's ongoing membership registration exercise in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, a letter from MUSEC, addressed to the party and copied to the agency, mentioned disturbances, including attacks at a residence in Asafotsi and at the Lord's Pentecostal Church International. These incidents were linked to some supporters of the NPP. The letter, signed by Mr. Dagba, who is also the Chairman of MUSEC, invited constituency executives to a meeting at the Assembly Hall. Attendees were asked to bring branch registers to aid the Ghana Police Service in its investigations, with the attendance deemed compulsory.

Mr. Pope Yao Yevoo, the Regional Secretary of the NPP, stated that the party could not accept what it viewed as interference in its internal affairs. While acknowledging MUSEC's role in maintaining peace and security, the party felt the request for internal documents exceeded MUSEC's mandate. The party emphasized that it has its own structures to handle disputes and issues from its activities, including the membership registration exercise, and was already addressing the situation internally.

The statement recognized the importance of police investigations into matters affecting public order but insisted that internal party records should remain confidential. Consequently, the Regional Secretariat advised all party officers in Akatsi South to ignore the invitation and urged the MCE to focus on his duties without interfering in the party's internal processes.
