VIOLENT PROTESTS CONTINUE IN SOUTH AFRICAN SUBURB AGAINST DRUG PEDDLING

Violent protests are continuing on Saturday night in Rosettenville, south of Johannesburg, against escalating drug peddling and prostitution in the area.

Earlier on Saturday, six people were injured when police clashed with angry residents.

The City of Johannesburg raided several brothels in the area this week. However, residents say the status quo remains.

Residents burned tyres while rubber bullets and stun grenades were used by police as protesters continue to clash with police.

Protesting crowds continue to gather determined to burn more so-called crime houses. At least a handful of residents have been left injured as police try to disperse protesters.

Residents say Nigerians are peddling drugs and recruiting young women into prostitution.
