Accra: The Upper West Regional Police Command recently hosted a significant meeting with the Member of Parliament for Wa West District, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toubu, and the District Chief Executive, Richard Wullo. The purpose of the meeting was to assess the security landscape and discuss ongoing police operational strategies within the Wa West District.
According to Ghana Web, the meeting provided an opportunity for the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, to brief the officials on the progress of police investigations into several incidents reported in the district over the past two years. He informed them that while some cases are currently being handled in court, others remain under active investigation.
The police commander highlighted that although criminal activities in the district are generally low, thanks to security measures implemented in collaboration with key stakeholders, occasional tensions persist. These tensions are primarily driven by longstanding tribal feuds, and they pose a notable concern for the district's security.
DCOP Yiribaare pointed out that these tribal tensions often lead to the generalisation of crimes along tribal and group lines. This phenomenon detracts from focusing on individual criminal responsibility and exacerbates community mistrust and tensions within the district.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to enhancing collaboration and coordination. They also pledged to work closely with traditional authorities, the youth, and other relevant stakeholders to address ethnic tensions and foster peace, security, and development in the district.
