Hohoe: The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has urged the Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on resolving internal challenges within his party instead of using the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) as a tool for political attacks. The MP expressed surprise that claims surrounding an alleged GHS1.7 billion loss by GoldBod continued to circulate despite being fact-checked and deemed a misrepresentation of the organisation's financial figures.
According to Ghana Web, the Hohoe MP criticized the NPP Regional Chairman in the Volta Region for relying on the claim to score political points and divert attention from internal party issues following the Chairman's election. 'You cannot use misinformation and gross ignorance as a political strategy,' the MP stated, emphasizing that GoldBod's financial figures should not automatically be interpreted as losses without evidence such as an audit report.
The MP further highlighted GoldBod's impact on the Volta Region, noting the importance of currency stability for traders and businesses in the region, especially given their extensive commercial activities with neighbouring Togo. He also pointed out GoldBod's social contributions, such as support for Operation Smile Ghana, which provided free surgeries for patients with cleft lip and palate at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
Addressing broader regional development, the MP mentioned several completed projects, including roads and infrastructure developments like the Fodome-Hohoe Road and the permanent campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). He stressed the importance of acknowledging tangible development rather than engaging in political misinformation.
The Hohoe MP called on political actors to engage in constructive debate based on verifiable facts, urging them to recognize contributions benefiting the people and to conduct discussions honestly. 'Volta deserves better,' he concluded.
