Washington: US President Donald Trump and his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement are set to headline the upcoming United States anniversary celebrations, following the withdrawal of several musical acts that were originally scheduled to perform. The President will inaugurate the historic celebrations of the nation's 250th anniversary in a ceremony on Wednesday, June 24, as announced by a spokeswoman for Trump's Freedom250 initiative to US media outlets over the weekend.
According to Ghana News Agency, Trump expressed on his Truth Social platform that he might personally step in to fill the performance slots left vacant by what he described as 'third rate artists.' He mentioned that his team would explore the possibility of organizing an 'AMERICA IS BACK Rally' in Washington, D.C., at the same time and location as the originally planned event. Trump referred to himself as the 'Number One Attraction anywhere in the World' and stated that only 'Great Patriots' would be invited.
Trump further emphasized his popularity by claiming that he draws larger audiences than Elvis Presley did at the height of his fame, even without a guitar. The initial lineup for the anniversary celebrations, scheduled in the US capital from June 25 to July 10, was released last week. However, several artists, including The Commodores, country singer Martina McBride, and Poison frontman Bret Michaels, subsequently cancelled their performances, citing concerns that the event was too politically charged despite its non-partisan claims.
In response, Trump criticized the musicians in a subsequent post and suggested that the anniversary concert should be entirely scrapped. He proposed replacing it with a massive 'MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY' to celebrate the 250th anniversary, dismissing the performers as overpriced and uninteresting while accusing them of constant complaining.
