Transport Manager Interdicted for Unauthorized Sale of State Vehicles

Sanaa:Northern Region A transport manager for the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Timothy Banzaazi, has been interdicted following the unauthorized sale of three state vehicles for a total of GHS13,803.

According to Ghana Web, the issue was brought to light during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing. It was revealed that Banzaazi had disposed of seven GHS vehicles without accounting for the proceeds. While four of these vehicles were returned, three were sold.

During the hearing, GHS officials clarified that the GHS13,803 was the total amount received from the sale of the three vehicles. The Director-General of the GHS, Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, informed the committee that Banzaazi had been reported to the police and suspended. The GHS ensured that the amount assessed by auditors was repaid.

Despite these actions, the PAC's Ranking Member, Samuel Attah-Mills, expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation. He criticized the decision to only suspend Banzaazi, arguing that the manager had no authority to sell the vehicles and failed to account for the funds.

Attah-Mills questioned why Banzaazi remained free after the incident, suggesting that the punishment was insufficient given the circumstances. He further challenged the GHS's characterization of the suspension as a form of punishment while the matter was also referred to the police.
