Accra: Some social media users have questioned the identity of the man arrested for allegedly slapping a pastor at the Ghana Police Headquarters. The Ghana Police Service, on August 13, 2026, announced the arrest of a man identified as Sibamay Zakaria, who was captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting the pastor. However, some social media users have challenged the police, claiming that the man seen in the viral video assaulting the pastor is not the same person who was arrested.
According to Ghana Web, the discrepancy between the physical features of the suspect and the man in the viral video has fueled public skepticism. One social media user pointed out, 'The suspect that you've posted on your page doesn't appear to be the same person that assaulted the pastor. EXHIBIT A: For one thing, the suspect has slanted shoulders and an oval-shaped chin. EXHIBIT B: The man in the video who is seen to have physically struck the pastor while he was in your custody has square shoulders, is taller, around six feet or more, with a square-shaped chin and face. He's also more broad-chested than your suspect. Indeed, these two men can't be the same person.'
The incident has led to a broader discussion on social media, with users demanding accountability and transparency from the Ghana Police Service. 'Ghana Police have questions to answer,' another user added, highlighting the growing concern over the arrest.
In the viral video, Apostle Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, who was arrested by the police, was seen in handcuffs and being interrogated by some Muslim men at the Police Headquarters. The pastor was arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Islam and was seen among some Muslim leaders while being interrogated. One of the clerics was captured slapping the pastor from behind while cautioning him over his alleged remarks against Islam. In a subsequent video, the same cleric was seen interrogating the pastor about his comments.
