There are more crimes committed by EOCO officers than they prevent – Barker-Vormawor

Private legal practitioner and renowned activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has criticized the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for their ineffectiveness in discharging their duties to protect the public purse.

He argued that the state institution responsible for holding persons who commit crimes accountable is instead engaged in extortion so as to bury issues that ought to be probed and prosecute those involved in them.

The private legal practitioner stated that some EOCO officers have confessed to him about their involvement in extortion to kill matters and enrich themselves.

Barker-Vormawor lamented that this issue jeopardizes the democracy practiced in the nation.

“There are more crimes committed by EOCO officers than they prevent. Many of their officers have personally told me about the extortion they run there. I know of clients who have been reported to EOCO and are extorted, and the matter killed. Sakawa boys are, in fact, the favorite targets of our law enforcement, police, and EOCO. The
y know those are easy prey.

“I know EOCO officers who have told me that they lost faith in this country when they started working there. That’s when they knew this democracy is doomed. I laughed when I heard Maame Tiwaa talk about doing lifestyle audits for celebrities in this country. Haha. Madam, you can’t even lifestyle audit your own self. Charity begins at home. No Savior is coming from anywhere. Absolutely none!” he wrote on his X page and sighted by GhanaWeb.

EOCO has faced criticism recently for its inability to appropriately investigate crime matters and deal with culprits.
