Tema, Mr Yohane Amarh Ashitey, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, has visited some public basic schools in the metropolis to inspect their infrastructural state.

The visit formed part of a weekly tour initiative of the Metropolis by the MCE to gather first-hand information on happenings in the metro.

Mr Frank Asante, Public Relations Officer of the TMA speaking to the Ghana News Agency said the MCE was accompanied by engineers from the works department who had been tasked to compile a report on the inspection.

Mr Asante said some of the schools visited were the Community Eight Number Four school complex, Akodzo JHS, Twedaase Primary and JHS, and St Pauls Methodist School.

He said the remaining ones in the Metropolis would also be assessed to find out their peculiar problems as part of the Assembly’s vision to make Tema shine again.

He noted that the situation at the Tema Community Eight Number four school needed immediate attention due to the profuse roof leakage which affected teaching and learning whenever it rained.

The PRO said the works department was instructed by the MCE to conduct feasibility on the structure for immediate remedial action, while the assembly mobilised resources to have a permanent solution.

Mr Asante explained that some of the old schools were constructed over 60 years ago when Dr Kwame Nkrumah created a planned Tema city and most of them all had some issues which the TMA was compiling for works to begin and therefore called for collaboration among stakeholders.

He said other issues noted at the schools were structural cracks and sewer lines problems.
