Accra – The People of Tatale/Sanguli District have indicated their readiness to dominate in the Open Defecation Free(ODF) Campaign to ensure that other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies adhered to it.
We have been adjudged the best District in ODF in the whole of the Northern Region for 2018 and will do everything possible to maintain our position and educate others to eliminate that cankerous ‘Open Defecation’ in communities.
MrJimahYakubu, Tatale/Sangule District Coordinating Director who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the Northern Regional Coordinating Council had released the League Table of ODF said his district adhered to the protocols of the ODF hence their position.
He said before winning the enviable top position, the Assembly in collaboration with the partners ensured that there was increased education on household coverage, community related issues, and district ownership and participation were stepped up.
He said plans of sustainability, leadership practices and involvement were also increased in all the communities of the district, while updates on ODF were also increased adding that they had come out with a plan to cover all communities that hitherto could not be reached.
MrYakubu gave the assurance that they would continue to work hard to sensitise more people to make use of the hygienic locally made household latrines in the District.
Mr Abdul-MananZiblim, District Environmental Health Officer said they were sampling the locally made household toilets and would continue to recommend them to the people to make use of those that were sustainable.
Out of the 27 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, the tatale/Sangule District placed first on the table after scoring 90 per cent in the provision of toilet facilities in their communities.
