Kumasi: The Kwadaso Circuit Court in Kumasi has ordered a psychiatric examination for 26-year-old Ebenezer Frimpong, who is accused of stealing a police armoured vehicle in Nkawie, Ashanti Region. Presiding judge, His Honour Jephtha Appau, issued the order on Monday, May 4, 2026, without stating any specific reasons.
According to Ghana Web, during his first court appearance on April 17, 2026, the young man made an unusual plea to the judge. He reportedly asked the judge to use his connections to help him enlist in the Ghana Police Service and also begged for leniency as the charges were read to him.
Frimpong, an unemployed resident of Antwi Agyei Nkwanta in the Atwima Mponua District, was arrested on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, by personnel from the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.
Police Prosecutor ASP Albert Asagre told the court that on the day of the incident, General Lance Corporal Joshua Denkyi was in charge of the armoured police vehicle with registration number GP 1131. The case has been adjourned to allow for the psychiatric assessment.
