Suame:Member of Parliament John Darko has denied any involvement in a controversial post-judgment settlement between SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited and Equity Savings and Loans Limited, which allegedly led to financial losses for SIC.
According to Ghana Web, Darko appeared before the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) investigators on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to assist with ongoing investigations into the matter. His legal team, Darko, Keli-Delataa and Co, issued a press release on Wednesday, October 14, clarifying his role as legal counsel for Equity during its litigation with SIC over an unpaid investment and his tenure on Equity's board from 2015 to 2023.
The law firm stated that Darko assured investigators his involvement was limited to litigation and the recovery of part of the judgment awards in favor of SIC. They emphasized that the firm played no role in any subsequent settlements between the parties and was unaware of Equity's land sale to Eco Swiss Investment Limited. The firm ended its legal services to Equity over unpaid fees before the post-judgment developments.
The case involves a July 2024 settlement where SIC agreed to accept GHS5 million in full settlement of a revised judgment debt of GHS14.85 million. EOCO estimates the financial loss from the alleged conspiracy at approximately GHS27 million. The investigation also involves Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, charged with conspiracy, causing financial loss, and money laundering.
Darko's lawyers affirmed his commitment to the investigation and praised EOCO for their professionalism. They asserted that Darko and his practice maintained ethical and professional standards throughout their engagement with Equity.
