Sunyani: The 'Ogyeamansan Free Vacation Classes,' instituted by Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, has attracted 1,500 learners in the Sunyani Municipality, who are presently participating in the various learning sessions.
According to Ghana Web, the Paramount Chief, who is also the President of the Sunyani Traditional Council (STC), instituted the annual long vacation classes for students and pupils in the area. The initiative is currently underway at the St Patrick Primary and Junior High School in Sunyani, where 40 teachers have been recruited by the Chief to handle the sessions, which take place annually from the first week of August between 0800 hours and 1300 hours until the resumption of the academic year.
These developments were highlighted during a visit by Nana Addae Kuntuma IV, the Nifahene (sub-chief) of the STC and the Supervisor of the Ogyeamansan Free Vacation Classes, who assessed the progress of the classes. He praised the behavior of the learners and stated that the visit aimed to identify and address any emerging challenges facing the program. He also commended the teachers for their dedication to the initiative.
Mr. Atta Akoto Senior, the officer in charge of Communication at the STC, emphasized Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II's commitment to improving the quality of education in the traditional area. He mentioned that there are plans underway to provide free meals for the beneficiaries as well.
Dr. Mrs. Vida Korang, the Secretary to the Ogyeamansan Education Trust Fund, praised the enrollment figures and advised teachers to increase their efforts to enhance the academic performance of the learners.
