STMA Conducts Waste Evacuation for National Sanitation Day

Sekondi-Takoradi:The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has carried out a waste evacuation exercise at various dumping sites to enhance waste management and sanitation in the metropolis.

According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was part of the Assembly's efforts to mark the National Sanitation Day for this month. The exercise focused on clearing refuse from about 20 sites with full and overflowing containers, posing environmental health risks.

Madam Bertha Essel, Head of Waste Management at STMA, explained that the Assembly had engaged in stakeholder discussions and decided to observe National Sanitation Day with focus on evacuating refuse at container sites. The metropolis has 40 container sites, over 20 of which were overflowing due to logistical challenges.

She emphasized that clearing these sites was essential for the success of future clean-up activities and is part of the Assembly's broader strategy to improve sanitation, ensure effective waste management, and promote hygienic conditions.

Residents expressed appreciation for the Assembly's intervention and urged city authorities to regularly empty skip containers to prevent refuse overflow.
