Kumasi: A total of 20,922 registered voters in the Ashanti Region are expected to cast their ballots for the special voting scheduled for Monday, December 2. These voters are expected to exercise their franchise in 52 designated centers. Special voting is designed for officers including security personnel, Electoral Commission (EC) staff, media, and election observers, who will be undertaking special tasks to cast their votes ahead of the general elections. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Francis Osei Nsiah, the Ashanti Regional Director for the EC, stated that the Commission was fully prepared for the exercise with all the voting materials intact. He emphasized the readiness of political party agents and election observers to monitor the process to ensure transparency and orderliness. Mr. Nsiah indicated that since special voting was meant for a selected few, all those expected to cast their votes should do that on time at the centers. This process allows key personnel involved in the election to fulfi l their duties without compromising their right to vote. In the upcoming elections, a total of 142 parliamentary candidates are contesting on the tickets of various political parties in the Ashanti Region. Out of this number, only 23 are females, with 22 independent candidates also seeking the mandate of the electorate to represent them in parliament. The Region, which has a total voter population of 3,019,178, will be accommodating voters in 7,100 polling stations scattered across its 47 constituencies.
