Accra: Ghanaian musician and media personality Sister Derby has opened up about the circumstances surrounding a 2014 controversy involving Charterhouse, GHOne TV, and dancehall artiste Shatta Wale. Speaking in a recent interview, she recalled that she was hosting the entertainment program, 'Gliterrati' on GHOne TV at the time and was still using her full name, Deborah Vanessa. According to Ghana Web, one episode of the show featured a segment highlighting Ghanaian artistes who had achieved success on the international stage. The script prepared by the program's producer reportedly included names such as R2Bees, Shatta Wale, and another artiste. However, Sister Deborah said she was instructed not to mention Shatta Wale's name during the broadcast. 'I said no it's not possible, because it's not a lot of Ghanaians who have gotten this recognition so what do you mean I shouldn't mention his name. Everybody in the studio was against me. I said it was not right and it was my face that was going to be on TV doing that,' she said. She explained that when she questioned the decision, the producer told her that Shatta Wale's name was not to be mentioned within their studios. Although she found the directive uncomfortable, she said others in the studio insisted it was common knowledge that Shatta Wale was not to be acknowledged, a situation she said involved Charterhouse as well because Shatta Wale was having issues with Charterhouse at the time. Sister Derby further revealed that after the programme aired, a fan of Shatta Wale confronted her on Facebook about the omission. In response, she said she openly told the fan that she had been instructed by GHOne TV and Charterhouse not to mention the artiste's name. According to her, both GHOne TV and Charterhouse were unhappy that she had publicly disclosed the information. 'I was on Facebook, and I think a Shatter fan came to ask me why I didn't mention Shatter's name? And I said it has nothing to do with me, it has to do with Shatta and Charterhouse, that was it. And Chart erhouse got angry at me that I went and said that,' she said.
