SDA Church Contributes GHS10,000 to Kpaguri SDA Basic School’s Water Project

According to ghana news agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, the project was initiated by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school to tackle the pressing water challenges. The intervention, with an estimated cost of GHS25,000.00, also aims to promote better health, enhance personal hygiene, and create an improved learning environment. Mr. Charles Dawona, the PTA Chairman, highlighted that the school had been grappling with water shortages since its inception, causing disruptions in lessons and affecting academic performance.

Mr. Dawona explained that the PTA managed to raise GHS12,870.00 to begin the construction of the mechanised borehole. He also identified other challenges such as inadequate furniture, lack of textbooks, and insufficient classroom space. He appealed to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), corporate entities, philanthropists, and NGOs for further support.

During the donation presentation, Pastor Whaley Asonre Aboungo, Director of UWAFU, emphasized that the donation was part of the Church's corporate social responsibility. He noted that the Church views education as a vital component of its mission, and supporting schools is an investment in the future of children.

Mr. Andrews Zunkara Sotenge, Headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to both the Church and the PTA for their intervention, stating that the water situation had created a challenging learning environment. Madam Alice Ellen Abeere-Inga, Upper West Regional Director of Education, who received the donation on behalf of the school, praised the SDA Church for their support and assured that the funds would be used as intended.

The water scarcity issue not only affects the school but also the surrounding community, highlighting the need for urgent attention from all stakeholders. Paulina George Loor, a Basic Eight pupil, shared that students were sometimes punished for returning late to class after searching for water, and expressed her appreciation to the benefactors for their intervention.
