Salman: Residents of Salman in the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area of the Ellembelle District in the Western Region have appealed to the government to secure a new investor to take over the Adamus Mine following the revocation of Adamus Resources Limited's mining lease for the Salman concession.
According to Ghana Web, during a press conference at the Salman Community Centre, Assembly Member for Salman, Yacoub Abdul Aziz, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the government for the decision to revoke the mining lease. Abdul Aziz urged the Sector Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to collaborate with the chiefs of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council to find an investor who prioritizes community development and respects residents.
Abdul Aziz emphasized the need for an investor who would support vocational training and respect the fundamental human rights of the community. He criticized Adamus Resources Limited for the poor infrastructure in the community, highlighting the substandard road network and inadequate resettlement housing.
The Chief of Salman, Nana Agyaneaka III, also expressed gratitude to the government, describing the revocation as a bold and overdue decision. He cited alleged breaches of the Minerals and Mining Acts and the lack of social amenities provided by Adamus Resources Limited despite two decades of operation in the area.
Nana Agyaneaka III called for a new mining investor to develop the region and pointed to the support provided by Ibrahim Mahama to communities in Damang as a positive example. Residents at the press conference echoed the call for a new investor and urged the government to improve the road network to boost economic activity.
The press conference concluded with chants of support for Salman and the affected communities, underscoring the residents' hopes for future development and investment.
