SALL: NPP can’t use Hohoe gerrymandering to win Buem seat from NDC — Kofi Adams

Member of Parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams, is confident government’s proposal to conduct a fresh parliamentary election in the constituency to include residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL) will amount to nothing.

The MP says the government’s quest to hold fresh polls is borne out of its insatiable desire to snatch the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to increase its representation in parliament.

Should the Buem elections be re-run, Kofi Adams believes that is far from possible because an opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate will retain the seat

“If it is about winning or losing anytime an election is to be conducted in Buem, an NDC candidate, even if it is not Kofi Adams, will win the election hands down. Whether it is conducted in Buem alone as it has been or with the imposition of the other 50 polling stations by the government, the NDC candidate will win”, he said on Face to Face on Citi TV.

Kofi Adams, says he is ready to contest in another election in the area.

It follows a proposal by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, for the annulment of the 2020 parliamentary elections in the Buem constituency.

This he explained is to ensure that the people of SALL exercise their right to vote, so they are represented in the 8th Parliament.

But already, Kofi Adams has said that would not be a challenge for him if the government insists that another election must be conducted to rectify the anomaly of some traditional residents in the Guan district being denied the opportunity to vote in the Buem constituency parliamentary election.

“So there is no fear about winning or losing that Constituency because it is not a place where any gerrymandering as it was done in the case of Hohoe can happen in Buem. That is just not possible.”

“The proposal by the Attorney General is his opinion. But I will be surprised that, that opinion will be countenanced by the government that a district assembly that has been solely established through the L.I should be collapsed to allow them to vote”, he added.
