General

Accra – The Rotary Club of Accra-Airport Enclave has marked a significant milestone by receiving its official charter, signifying its establishment as a new Rotary Club in Ghana, under Rotary District 9104. The club celebrated this achievement with a fundraising dinner in Accra, aiming to support the Senior Correctional Centre (formerly the Borstal Institute) and other projects.

According to Ghana News Agency, the charter presentation to the Accra-Airport Enclave occurs just two months after Rotary in Ghana attained district status, a testament to the substantial growth in membership over the past decade. Rotary International is a renowned global service organization that unites business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian assistance and promote peace and goodwill worldwide. With over 35,000 member clubs and more than 1.2 million members, known as Rotarians, the organization is non-religious, non-political, and welcomes all.

In a goodwill message, Rotary International President Gordon MCinally welcomed the 52 new members to the Rotary family, emphasizing the club’s role in tackling global humanitarian issues and making a difference in others’ lives. He highlighted that chartering a new club is both exciting and challenging, with the key to success being the building of a strong membership.

Mr. MCinally encouraged the new members to commit to service, ranging from local community-based projects to significant global initiatives, underlining the potential to accomplish great things in both local and international communities.

David Osei Amankwah, the District Governor of District 9104 (Ghana), noted the influential role of the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport in the establishment of the new club. He urged the new members to engage in membership drives and expand the district’s service footprint. Mr. Amankwah emphasized the new club’s potential for impactful projects and appealed to the dinner attendees to contribute generously to the rehabilitation project at the Senior Correctional Centre.

The Charter President, Mr. Andrew Fiifi Simpson, reflected on his journey to becoming a Rotarian and the transformative impact of Rotary International’s partnership programs, particularly on the lives of disadvantaged individuals. He dismissed the notion that Rotary was merely a social club, stressing the importance of community service and urging fellow Rotarians to make a difference, especially for the disadvantaged in society.

Mr. Simpson pledged that the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport Enclave would become one of the most vibrant clubs in District 9104, focusing on contributing to societal wellbeing in areas such as health, education, and climate change.
