Rev Osei Kofi Urges Return of Kwasi Appiah as Black Stars Coach

Accra: 1965 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Rev Osei Kofi, has called on football authorities to convince James Kwasi Appiah to take over the coaching job of the Black Stars. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) released an official statement on March 31, 2026, announcing that they had parted ways with Otto Addo and expressed appreciation for his efforts with the team. Rev Osei Kofi believes that Appiah, who is currently the coach for Sudan, has the necessary experience to manage the Black Stars, especially during their challenging times.

According to Ghana Web, Rev Osei Kofi, in an interview with Citi Sports, urged authorities to employ Kwasi Appiah to fill the vacant position. He questioned the preparedness of the football authorities, stating, "You were not prepared, and you sacked the coach? If we want to hire a coach, the best person who will help us is Kwasi Appiah. Aside from him, I don't see anybody else." Rev Kofi emphasized that a foreign coach would require time to understand the local system and brand, whereas Appiah is already familiar with it. He added, "So if they can beg him to help us, it will be very good. Because you sacked him, which was a disgrace, we really need him."
