Wenyagor: Residents of Wenyagor, Alakpakope, and Agornugble in the Volta Region have been connected to the national grid for the first time through a rural electrification project led by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition in partnership with the Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey. Commissioned in December 2025, the project is designed to drive growth, improve livelihoods, and promote social and economic development in these rural communities.
According to Ghana Web, a video shared on the X page of CDR Africa on Thursday, January 22, 2026, captured the moment the lights were switched on in the communities for the first time. In the footage, residents could be seen dancing and celebrating a milestone they had long awaited.
For the people of these communities, electricity represents a new era: school pupils can now study after dark, businesses can extend their operational hours, and homes are safer and more comfortable. Ghana's Rural Electrification Project aims to provide clean and sustainable electricity to underserved communities, significantly improving living standards.
The initiative is also part of broader efforts to achieve universal electricity access by 2030.
