Queen mother of Mankomeda in the Awutu-Senya West District, Manye Naa Adoley I, has called on individuals to support widows and orphans in the country to minimize streetism.
Speaking at the launch of Majestic Platinum Club in Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, Manye Naa Adoley, President of Majestic Platinum Club emphasized that widows and orphans were part of the most vulnerable in society who must be supported.
According to her, her desire to assist the vulnerable in society had been done over the years but needed to establish the organization to give her activities a strong backing with support from the larger society beyond her traditional area.
As part of the launch, the foundation also cut the sod for the construction of a modern facility to accommodate widows and orphans without accommodation.
She said the vulnerability of women by extension, affected widows rendering them the most vulnerable in society.
In her view, most orphans without proper care mostly end up on the streets and engage in robbery activities terrorizing communities whilst some fall victim to teenage pregnancy and drug abuse.
To curb the growing menace, she urged community leaders, prominent persons in society, corporate organizations and philanthropists to prioritize the welfare of orphans and widows to minimize the negative impact on society.
She further appealed to benevolent organizations to support the club in its quest to empower widows and orphans for them to live meaningful lives.
Vice President of the Club, Miss Harriet Boateng added that the club has come into being because the group felt the need to assist the Queen-mother who always contributed towards the upkeep of widows and orphans to empower them economically.
“We consider widows and orphans as most vulnerable in the Ghanaian society in view that there is an upsurge in less privileged youths in society with its attendant increasing menace of teenage pregnancies and drug abuse.
We intend to through this organization reach out to these groups of people in the various communities to mitigate the negative effects on the larger society,” she added.
