PURC Engages Hundreds in Volta/Oti Monitoring Exercise

Accra: The Volta/Oti Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has completed a community monitoring and public education exercise spanning four operational districts. This initiative, conducted from April 13 to 17, 2026, covered Dambai, Jasikan, Hohoe, and Kpando, focusing on ensuring quality utility services for consumers.

According to Ghana Web, the exercise aimed to evaluate key performance indicators such as service quality, meter reading accuracy, bill delivery efficiency, and customer care. It also aimed to increase public awareness of the Commission's role and bolster consumer confidence in its regulatory functions. During the exercise, the Commission engaged approximately 330 consumers across 31 communities in the four districts. In Dambai District, visits were made to Dambai, Katanga, Asukawkaw, Kparekpare, and Tokurano. The Jasikan District included interactions with residents in Jasikan, Worawora, Kadjebi, Okadjakrom, Poase Cement, Dzindziso, and Guaman.

In the Hohoe District, the team visited Akpafu Odomi, Mempeasem, Santrokofi Benua, Gbodome, Likpe Nkwanta, Bakua, Gbi Atabu, Kledzo, and Fodome Amele. Meanwhile, the Kpando District involved engagements in Kpando Gabi, Torkor, Fesi, Agbenoxoe, Anfoega, and Vakpo. Consumer feedback revealed mixed experiences regarding utility service delivery. Many acknowledged improvements in meter reading, timely bill delivery, and the attitude of service providers, indicating enhanced customer relations.

However, persistent concerns were noted about service quality, with frequent reports of voltage fluctuations, phase-offs, and power outages, particularly during peak periods. These issues reportedly disrupt economic activities and adversely affect small and medium-scale businesses. The PURC indicated that the findings would be shared with relevant utility service providers for prompt action. It reiterated its commitment to working with stakeholders to address gaps and improve service delivery standards.

The Commission also assured the public of its ongoing efforts to monitor utility services, aiming for reliable, efficient, and equitable access to electricity and water.
