Prizes for 2026 Kwahu Mountain Marathon Announced

Kwahu: The Marathon Foundation Ghana has announced prize details for the 2026 Kwahu Mountain Marathon, unveiling increased cash rewards and an expanded benefits package for participating athletes.

According to Ghana News Agency, winners in both the men's and women's elite categories will each receive GHS 7,000, while runners-up will earn GHS 5,000. Third-place finishers will receive GHS 3,000, and fourth-place athletes will take home GHS 1,000. Organisers mentioned that this year's marathon, set for Saturday, April 4, 2026, will feature two race categories: a 21km competition for professional athletes and a 5km run open to corporate organisations.

The marathon is part of the annual Kwahu Easter festivities under the auspices of the Kwahu Traditional Council. It is expected to draw thousands of participants, both local and international. The Marathon Foundation Ghana stated that the prize structure has been revised to offer higher cash payments and rewards extending to the top 20 finishers. This move is intended to boost participation and elevate the marathon's profile.

Organisers added that the top 20 athletes will also receive products from event sponsors, marking what they describe as one of the most comprehensive reward packages offered by any road race in the country. The Marathon Foundation Ghana noted that the adjustments reflect the growing stature of the Kwahu Mountain Marathon and its aim to create more opportunities for long-distance runners across the country. Registration for the marathon is still ongoing, and prospective participants can register on the Kwahu Marathon website.
