Accra: Mr. David Sitsope Tamekloe, the Editor-in-Chief of Whatsup News and the President of the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), has extended support to flood victims at Agbozume-Ahorkpoe in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region. The aid was facilitated through the Ketu South Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to relieve residents affected by the recent floods.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Tamekloe mentioned that the relief effort was made possible through contributions from various individuals and partners, including Mrs. Veronica Debrah, the wife of the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, and other benevolent supporters. The initiative aims to lessen the hardships faced by families whose homes and livelihoods were disrupted by the floods.
Mr. Tamekloe expressed his commitment to extend similar support to victims in other communities and urged residents to practice responsible environmental habits to prevent future flooding incidents. He highlighted the dangers of constructing buildings on waterways and indiscriminate waste dumping, which could block drains and exacerbate flooding conditions. Additionally, he encouraged communities to engage in communal labour for cleaner surroundings to avoid the risk of disease outbreaks following flooding.
Mr. Ferguson Ahorlu, the Ketu South Municipal Director of NADMO, expressed gratitude to Mr. Tamekloe and his partners for the support. He explained that Agbozume-Ahorkpoe was chosen due to the significant damage it suffered, being one of the hardest-hit areas in the municipality. Mr. Ahorlu also advised residents in flood-prone areas to consider relocating to safer locations during the rainy season to protect lives and property.
NADMO has begun distributing relief items to flood victims throughout the municipality, assuring that all affected households will be reached. Though the aid may not replace all losses, it is intended to ease the immediate burden on victims.
Mr. Saviour Agbeko Awoye, the Assembly Member for the Ahorkpoe Electoral Area, received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, assuring fair distribution. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the timely assistance.
The donated items included 30 boxes of Klensoft and bar soap, 30 boxes of Athena bath soap, 30 sacks of powdered soap, 30 boxes of sanitary pads, 10 large packs of toilet rolls, four large packs of table tissue, 20 bags of rice, 10 boxes of cooking oil, 20 boxes of noodles, assorted packs of sachet water, and 30 packs of soft drinks.
