Accra: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has clarified the reasons behind President John Dramani Mahama's use of private jets for his international travels, including recent trips to the World Governments Summit 2026 and Zambia.
According to Ghana Web, Ablakwa explained that the aircraft used by President Mahama are not privately chartered but are provided by international leaders eager to host him. This arrangement, he noted, highlights the respect and esteem President Mahama commands globally, as many leaders are keen to have him at events and discussions in their countries.
Ablakwa emphasized that this unique arrangement is a testament to the high regard in which President Mahama is held, refuting claims that he has developed a preference for private jets. The minister highlighted that the President's demanding schedule prompts some nations to ensure his travel is efficient and uninterrupted.
"They are not looking at his calendar or his schedule. Whatever they have to do to lift him, airlift him to their countries, and send him wherever he has to be next, they are doing that. And so for the record, that is the reason why you saw a different kind of jet here," Ablakwa noted.
Ablakwa urged Ghanaians to take pride in the recognition and prestige President Mahama has brought to the office, asserting that it has restored the dignity of the presidency and elevated Ghana's standing internationally.
During his visit to Zambia, President Mahama engaged in bilateral discussions with President Hakainde Hichilema on topics such as diplomatic relations, trade and investment, and cooperation within the African Continental Free Trade Area.
