President Mahama Inspects Bechem Poultry Factory as Production Rises

Bechem:President John Dramani Mahama has inspected the Poultry, Meat and Feed Processing Factory under construction in Bechem, Ahafo Region, as part of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the region.

According to Ghana Web, domestic poultry production in Ghana has increased from four percent to 22 percent due to the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative under the government's Feed Ghana Programme.

During the inspection, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, briefed the President on the construction progress, stating that the initiative led to a surplus in egg production, emphasizing the need for more processing and marketing opportunities for poultry farmers.

The factory is also set to produce poultry feed and include a hatchery to support local production and enhance the poultry value chain. President Mahama noted that he initially commenced the facility's construction on November 27, 2025, and observed that it was 58 percent complete. He expressed that once operational, the factory is expected to transform Bechem into Ghana's poultry capital.

President Mahama urged the youth to consider poultry farming, highlighting the available market opportunities for locally produced chicken.

The Nifahene of Bechem, Awuah Boadi, praised the President for the project, expressing hope that it would provide additional employment opportunities for young people in the area. He mentioned that some residents had already been employed by the factory.

This project is part of the government's broader Feed Ghana Programme, aimed at boosting domestic food production, creating jobs, and strengthening the agricultural and agro-processing sectors in Ghana.
