Tamale: The Northern Regional Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, has apprehended 12 individuals suspected of drug peddling and seized substances believed to be narcotic during an anti-drug operation conducted in the Tamale Metropolis and the Tolon District.
According to Ghana News Agency, the operation resulted in the confiscation of boxes of Tramadol and dried leaves thought to be Indian hemp. A press statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Northern Regional Police Command, and shared with the Ghana News Agency, detailed these developments.
The statement revealed that the operation took place on Wednesday, April 22, at approximately 10:30 AM. It was part of a routine exercise aimed at curbing drug peddling activities within the metropolis. The operation led to the arrest of 12 suspects for possession of suspected narcotic drugs and involvement in unauthorised drug-related activities.
The team proceeded to Tolon, where the suspects were identified as Mohammed Shabu, 19, Abdul Rahman Rashid, 20, Zakaria Sulemana, 20, Alhassan Ibrahim, 20, Abdulai Manine, 20, Abdullai Jalil, 21, Abdul Rahman Hamidu, 24, and Latif Hamadu, 48. Additionally, suspects included Ibrahim Idrisu, 35, Adam Fatawu, 17, Abubakari Nayo, 24, and Iddrisu Mohammed, 34.
The statement further noted that all the suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
