Paul Mante Discusses Path to Financial Independence Without Relying on Salary

Accra:Managing Director of EDC Investments Limited, Paul Mante, has emphasized the importance of achieving financial independence through strategic investments rather than solely relying on a salary.

According to Ghana Web, Mante shared his insights on the Konnected Minds podcast, where he argued that financial independence is not automatically achieved by earning a high salary or obtaining an advanced education. Instead, he stressed the need for effective financial planning, consistent saving, and investment to generate income beyond regular employment.

Mante noted that understanding how money works is crucial for all professionals, regardless of their job or income level. He highlighted the importance of financial knowledge and described saving as the initial step towards financial independence. However, he cautioned that simply saving money without investing could lead to a loss of purchasing power over time due to inflation.

Using an example, Mante explained that an individual with GHS20,000 who does not invest might find that the money's value decreases over ten years due to rising prices. He advocated for investing savings to generate returns, illustrating this with a scenario where an investment of GHS1 million at an 18% annual return could yield GHS180,000 a year, providing income to support a desired lifestyle.

Mante also highlighted that financial independence is about more than just accumulating wealth; it involves gaining the freedom to make choices about how to spend time and what work to pursue. He encouraged a shift from spending available income to building assets for future returns, emphasizing financial literacy as a key component for achieving long-term financial security.
