Accra: The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has expressed his views on the ongoing extradition process of former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Boamah highlighted the necessity for public officers under Ghana's laws to be prepared to account for their actions.
According to Ghana Web, Boamah, in a video shared on YouTube on January 20, 2026, emphasized that no public official is exempt from the law and that accountability is unavoidable. He stated, "Every public officer duly appointed under the laws of this country ought to know that there is definitely going to be a day for accountability, so, I think we are all subject to the laws of this country."
Addressing Ofori-Atta's legal situation in the United States, the MP mentioned that the matter is currently under the jurisdiction of US authorities. "I think the former minister has sent an application to the US authorities and that is for the determination of US authorities," Boamah noted.
He further remarked that if Ofori-Atta is extradited to Ghana, the country's legal procedures would be executed impartially. The lawmaker emphasized that the issue should be managed by the former minister, his legal team, and the relevant authorities. "If he is brought to Ghana, I believe the laws of this country will be used to judge his conduct, so, I leave that to the former minister and his legal team and the US authorities," he stressed.
Boamah expressed his confidence in Ghana's justice system, assuring that due process would be adhered to if Ofori-Atta returns to the country. "Once he comes to Ghana, due process will be followed and I believe he's got a competent team of lawyers to handle his affairs," he concluded.
Patrick Boamah's remarks come in the wake of Ken Ofori-Atta's recent court appearance in the US concerning his immigration issues. The case has been adjourned to April 27, 2026.
