Accra: Passion for Needy, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), recently made a significant donation to the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region, contributing various items to support the school's operations and student needs.
According to Ghana News Agency, the donation, valued at GHS30,000, comprised 100 bags of rice, cooking oil, liquid soap, washing detergents, toilet rolls, mackerel, sugar, onions, loaves of bread, soft drinks, and bottled water. Mrs Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, Chairperson of Passion for Needy, highlighted that this was the organisation's second donation to the school, with their first being in 2010. The act of generosity was also a tribute to the posthumous birthday of Prophet T.B. Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), who passed away five years ago.
Prophet T.B. Joshua founded Passion for Needy in 2009. Based in Ghana, the NGO is known for its humanitarian efforts, supporting street children, orphans, widows, the elderly, and other underprivileged groups. Mrs El-Aschkar emphasized that Evelyn, the widow of the late prophet, has continued to uphold her husband's legacy by supporting the less privileged.
Mrs El-Aschkar stated that the organisation also focuses on aiding brilliant but needy students through educational support and providing care for the elderly, widows, widowers, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. The recent donation to the Akropong School for the Blind aims to supplement governmental support and ease the school's financial burdens.
Mrs Veronica Dery, Headmistress of the Akropong School for the Blind, expressed her gratitude for the donation and encouraged other institutions to follow suit. She praised the organisation's patience and dedication, acknowledging these as vital qualities for working in special schools.
Since its inception in 2009, Passion for Needy has assisted numerous charitable institutions, including the Teshie and Nungua Children's Home, Christ Faith Foster Home at Frafraha, YOA Foundation, and the Islamic Research Institute at Nima.
