Keta:Parents in Keta have expressed their appreciation for the government's efforts and teacher unions' decision to suspend the nationwide strike, which had previously halted academic activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspension came after an agreement was reached between the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG). The resolution is seen as a positive step towards resuming normal teaching and learning processes.
Madam Sewoenam Hedeglo, a local mother, noted the strike had disrupted educational routines, causing uncertainty and threatening students' academic progress. The resolution between the government and teacher unions alleviates concerns about the potential long-term effects of school closures on children's education.
She emphasized the pressure the strike placed on working parents who had to find alternative care for their children, impacting their daily activities. Meanwhile, Mr. Korbla Dovlo, another parent, urged the continued commitment to the agreement to prevent future disruptions, highlighting the importance of consistent classroom instruction for students' academic development.
The agreement promises salary adjustments for approximately 52,000 promoted teachers by October 16, 2026, with remaining issues to be resolved by the end of October. Parents have called for the timely implementation of these arrangements to maintain trust and avoid further industrial action.
The community also urged teachers to return to classrooms with dedication to help students catch up on missed lessons and stressed the importance of open communication between the government and teacher unions to address future disputes for the betterment of education and national progress.
