Over 20,000 Candidates Set to Sit for 2026 BECE in Bono East Region

Nkoranza: Over 20,000 candidates are expected to participate in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Bono East Region, according to Mr. Gabriel Gyamfi, the Bono East Regional Examination Coordinator. The examination will take place from May 4 to May 11, 2026. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Gyamfi stated that the candidates include 10,703 girls and 10,128 boys from 511 public and 230 private schools across 11 districts and municipalities in the region. He emphasized the importance of avoiding examination malpractices, warning that those involved would face sanctions. The region has been noted for examination malpractices, and Mr. Gyamfi called on examination supervisors and invigilators to strictly enforce the exam rules to curb this issue. In a separate interview, Reverend Father Kingsley Dwamena, the Bono East Regional Director of Education, mentioned that measures have been implemented to address malpractices during the 2026 BECE. Rev Fr Dwamena highlighted the engagement o f stakeholders, including parents, teachers, traditional authorities, and faith-based organizations, to combat examination malpractices. He noted that such malpractices hinder the nation's efforts to develop a quality human resource base and appealed for resources to ensure effective monitoring and supervision at examination centers. Mr. Godfred Dapaah, the Nkoranza South Municipal Chief Executive, also encouraged the candidates to maintain confidence, perform well in the exams, and avoid malpractice temptations that could lead to adverse consequences on their educational journey.
