Otto Addo agrees to lead Black Stars against Nigeria in 2022 World Cup playoff

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reached an agreement with Otto Addo to take charge of the Black Stars on the interim according to reports.

Addo, who is a former Black Stars defender has agreed to lead the team in next month’s 2022 World Cup play-offs against Nigeria in March.

Kurt Okraku and other GFA officials together with Tony Baffoe were in Germany earlier this week to hold talks with Addo and Dortmund officials.

Dortmund gave their blessing after Otto Addo agreed to take interim charge of the Black Stars for the two games against the Super Eagles in late March.

Addo, who was the first assistant coach under the recently sacked Milovan Rajvac, is trusted by the GFA to secure qualification to Qatar.

However, the GFA are expected to appoint a substantive coach after the playoff games. Former Premier League coach Chris Hughton, who is on holiday in Ghana, is vying for the top job.

Black Stars will host the first leg encounter before travelling to Nigeria for the return leg.

The games will be played between March 24 and 29, 2022 with exact dates and kick-off times to be confirmed after CAF liaises with the two countries’ associations.
