Oppong Nkrumah Seeks Transparency on Women’s Bank and One Million Coders Programme

Accra:The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has raised concerns regarding the impact and expenditure of the government’s Women’s Development Bank and One Million Coders Programme. He is seeking clarity on the number of Ghanaians who have benefited from these initiatives, as well as the financial outlay involved.

According to Ghana Web, Oppong Nkrumah, who is also a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasized the need for the government to demonstrate that its initiatives are making a significant difference in the lives of women and young people. The Women's Development Bank was established to provide affordable loans to women, particularly traders, entrepreneurs, and small business owners, with the aim of supporting business growth.

He has expressed doubts about the progress of this initiative and inquired about the number of women who have received financial assistance. Oppong Nkrumah is urging the government to reveal details about the funds allocated to the bank, its operational status, and the timeline for women to access its services.

Regarding the One Million Coders Programme, the MP questioned the number of young Ghanaians who have been trained in digital skills and secured employment as a result. This programme was designed to equip the youth with coding and technology-related skills to enhance their job prospects.

He insisted that the government should disclose information on the number of individuals trained, the expenditure incurred, and the employment outcomes achieved through the programme. Oppong Nkrumah stressed the importance of seeing concrete results from government initiatives and urged for a detailed account to promote transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.
