Accra: Former Asante Kotoko head coach, Isaac Opeele Boateng, has expressed his opinion that there is no discernible difference between the coaching styles of Carlos Queiroz and Otto Addo when it comes to their tenures as Black Stars coaches.
According to Ghana Web, Boateng initially criticized Otto Addo for what he viewed as a lack of competency. However, his perspective has shifted, and he now sees the performances of Addo and Queiroz as almost identical. Boateng acknowledged that while he once heavily criticized Addo, he now believes both coaches have delivered similar outcomes for the team.
The former coach specifically pointed out Carlos Queiroz's ability to optimize a team he described as one of the worst in Black Stars' history. Despite this challenge, Queiroz led the team to an impressive qualification to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Boateng noted that this achievement, given the limited preparation time and the team's prior condition, gives Queiroz a slight edge over Addo. "Don't get me wrong. Otto Addo was not good. I used to criticize him, but I don't see any difference between Carlos and Addo. The only difference is Carlos making good use of the worst Black Stars team we have ever seen in history at the World Cup. That gives Carlos a plus," he explained on X.
In contrast, Boateng highlighted Addo's free-flowing attacking style, which allowed the Black Stars to net a substantial number of goals during matches. He emphasized Addo's record of scoring five goals in the 2022 World Cup and achieving three goals in just 90 minutes, attributing this success to his offensive strategy. Despite some fans questioning his statements as contradictory, Boateng remains steadfast in his assessment of both coaches' abilities and contributions to the Black Stars.
