Accra: The Nzema-East Municipal Assembly organized a significant clean-up exercise in Axim, the municipal capital, as part of the 69th Independence Day anniversary celebrations.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was led by Mr. Herbert Kuah-Dickson, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and Mr. Kofi Arko-Nokoe, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Evaloe Adjomoro-Gwira. The event gathered individuals and institutions to participate in cleaning activities aimed at ensuring a healthy environment. The participants engaged in sweeping streets, cleaning shores, weeding overgrown areas, and desilting blocked gutters.
Mr. Kuah-Dickson, speaking to the Ghana News Agency during the exercise, praised the Assembly's workforce, particularly those from security agencies, for their enthusiastic participation in cleaning the municipal capital. He emphasized the critical importance of good sanitation for the survival of the community and noted that the Assembly chose to prioritize sanitation over having schoolchildren march in the sun.
He expressed optimism that this initiative would become an annual tradition. Mr. Arko-Nokoe also shared with the Ghana News Agency that the clean-up exercise served as an excellent alternative to the Independence Day Anniversary parade, highlighting its cost-effectiveness. He affirmed the government's commitment to restoring Ghana's former glory through communal efforts.
